Wizards win out in New Mexico
By: travis |KC won the inaugural New Mexico Cup out in Albuquerque, getting two goals from little-used Ivan Trujillo. They won with a final score of 2-0, a good boost of confidence. I still think the timing of the friendly is a bit odd, but everyone seems to have come through unscathed. Running commentary of the match [...]
Building the KC Brand
By: travis |All teams need to make money to stay afloat. And what better way to do this than having your own team store? The Wizards recently unveiled KCSoccerStore.com which sells all things Wizards-related. On first glance it’s a bit small, but it’s a start. Hillcrest Road has more details behind the launch of the site and [...]
Know thy enemy
By: travis |With the Wizards with a bye weekend (sort of) the biggest news of the week relates to Colorado’s 1-0 win against the LA Galaxy in a US Open Cup qualifier last on Tuesday. On June 4 KC will host the Rapids with the winner filling a spot in the 16-team tournament. The match will take [...]
More Galaxy aftermath
By: travis |According to Beckham, we’re good. In some of the post game riff raff, he spat out this quote to someone:
“It was a hard fought match. The first half wasn’t very good. The second half showed the character of our team. I give all the credit to K.C. They are the best team we have played [...]
Los Angeles 3-1 Kansas City
By: travis |Another lead squandered. Thanks to the game being on HDNet week, I couldn’t catch any of it save for the highlights on MLSnet. And from what I could gather, it was a wild and entertaining match that saw KC once again find the net first. After a fine stop by Hartman off Donovan in the [...]
Off to LA Galaxy
By: travis |LA is stop number 5 on the current road trip. While the results haven’t been the best – the team has a 1-2-1 record – last week saw their two game losing streak come to an end. A return to Kansas City is only a few weeks away as well.
The Galaxy, while soft at the [...]
Jimmy Conrad likes taking interviews
By: travis |The man is everywhere. The captain of the Wizards has recently appeared here on The Offside, wrote a love letter to referees, and now a Q & A has popped up on MLSnet.com. As usual, Jimmy brings the quote and offers a few interesting tidbits about his life. My favorite is below, as he talks [...]

By: travis |The Wizards are going to get some international competition in just over a week. They’re going to take part in the New Mexico Cup, being held at the University of New Mexico Football Stadium in Albuquerque. KC will face Club Social y Deportivo Municipal, a club from Guatemala.
Tickets are available here for those living [...]
Leathers plays 90 for US-23
By: travis |Wizards defender Jonathan Leathers played 90 minutes for the Under 23 team in Toulon, their first game of the tournament. Hillcrest Road writes a bit about it, and Mike from Down the Byline gives a more detailed description. Overall, the US lost 3-2 to Turkey in their opening match in France. Hopefully Peter Nowak will [...]
Conrad at it again
By: travis |The brilliant and inspiring writer/soccer player Jimmy Conrad has emerged once again to bring witty and insightful writing to ESPNSoccernet more lively. The full article can be found here, but if you’re too lazy to read it, here’s a sample or two:
I mean, is it possible that I could disagree with 20,000 Toronto fans using [...]
