Leaving on a jet plane…

A few thoughts/questions prior to KC taking off Wednesday night for a preaseason stint in Argentina:

Will Claudio Lopez be on the plane ride back home?
That’s one of the biggest questions. As reported earlier, last Friday discussions were quite close in bringing the Argentinian to KC as the DP. Convenient that they’ll be in his home country. The next week should bring further news. Reports say that it is close, but names are being kept secret in case it’s a repeat of the Veron situation with D.C.

Coming all the way from Graceland
The past weekend saw over 200 players come out for trials. One player, Kevin Souter, a midfielder from the well-known Graceland University caught their eye and joined the team at practice this week. He’ll also accompany them to Argentina. Pretty neat to snag a trip to Argentina with a professional soccer team. Good luck to Kevin.

Injury Report
A brief look at the Wizards injury situation. Veteran Davy Arnaud is expected to miss the beginning of the season after having microfracture surgery earlier this season. He has been working out with the team here and there and is reportedly itching to rejoin the first team squad. It will be a big boost to have his experience back once he is healthy and ready to go. The other significant injury is rookie Roger Espinoza, who broke a bone in his foot while practicing and will miss 3-4 weeks.

No Olympic Hurdles to clear
My condolences go out to Chance Myers who wasn’t named by Peter Nowak to join the U-23 camp from March 1-9. Kind of a bummer to miss out on a chance like that, good to have the rookie in camp training to get ready for the start of ‘08.

That’s all for now. The team jumps on a plane Wednesday night where they’ll spend a few weeks playing in Argentina.
