Former Estudiantes Midfielder Coming to Wizards?

It looked so sure that Santino Quaranta was on his way from LA to the Wizards that the Kansas City Star put it in writing, and soon after si.com and I relayed that information onward. As it turns out, the report was premature. The KC deal was replaced by one sending Quaranta to RBNY for a fourth-round draft pick. Low cost and a large upside, if you ask me! We might not have to forfeit even a fourth-rounder, however, as:
The Mystery Argentine Wins?
After a flurry of transfer rumors, Eloy Colombano, the “mystery Argentine” whom I previewed as a possible transfer target for the Wizards, appears to be the next Wizard signing. While it is yet to be official, I’m optimistic given the following similarities to the Carlos Marinelli transaction:
1) Born in Argentina
2) Currently reaching the end of a contract with a team the Wizards scrimmaged during the pre-season.
3) Possibility of a signing leaked by Robb Heineman (thanks, Robb!).
4) News of the player on trial on BigSoccer.com.
5) Press release on MLSNet.
And We Play DC United Tomorrow.
What a game… tight standings, fourth of July, hosting DC, and getting the chance to show it wasn’t a fluke when we opened the season: we really own United!
