Mid-week game throws me off guard
By: travis | April 9th, 2008The busy start to the season continues for the Wizards. Fresh off of their 3-2 win against the Rapids at the CAB (I’m now going to use that to refer to their stadium) the Revolution come to town for a mid-week matchup. They come in severely short handed, with Taylor Twellman, Steve Ralston (both injured), and Jeff Larentowicz (red card) all out for today’s game. On top of that, the Revs are looking to rebound from the 4-0 pounding they received at the hands of Chicago last week. It may have been an aberration, as they lost Larentowicz just 7 or 8 minutes into the match, and it’s a tall task to try and win a game with 10 men for such a long period of time. So there is no doubt that New England will be out fighting hard.
The biggest concern coming into this week is the performance of the defense. After handling D.C. with ease the first week, shutting them out 2-0, the Wizards backline conceded two soft goals that allowed the Rapids to get back into the game. If it wasn’t for the grit and determination of Scott Sealy and an ambitious move by Coach Onfalo, they might have blown their chance at three points. The backline, aside from Conrad is a bit young, and it would be no surprise to see them have an up and down season.
The other interesting development will be who starts up front with Lopez. Sealy definitely made a case with goal last week, but Trujillo has also been a thorn in the opposing defense’s side. Oh the dilemmas facing the coach. A great problem to have if you ask me. When it’s all said and done, I feel like the Wizards will pull of their third win in as many games, as the Revolution’s thin roster will prove vulnerable.
