On the road again and hoping for a goal
By: Herschel | August 21st, 2009The Wizards are running out of time to right the ship and try to make a run up the table. They visit the Earthquakes in a match between teams that certainly had higher expectations for the 2009 than what they have been able to achieve up to now.
I liked the effort and the passing from KC last weekend (they tried to get away from “everything is a long ball” style of play) but their finishing let them down and they got shut out once again. Peter Vermes made some changes last weekend after the Dallas debacle that I liked but left in some players that I honestly think should sit on the bench and think about what they are doing for this team. That being said and having gone out to watch a practice this weekend I believe he’s not done tweaking with the team and I’m guessing the lineup will be as follows:
Hartman
Watson-McKenzie-Conrad-Harrington
Gomez-Jewsbury-Arnaud-Hirsig
Wolff and Lopez
I particularly don’t like this lineup but I expect Vermes to shove Hirsig, Lopez and Wolff down our throat for the remainder of the year hoping that there will be an offensive jumpstart triggered by these players that he is responsible for having brought in. I really hope he can get the team jumpstarted using these players that Onalfo couldn’t make produce for 20 games. On the positive side he finally moved Harrington back to the defense, which was long overdue.
At this point I’m one or two losses away from giving up on the season; and if we do reach that point I just wish KC can go to a real youth movement (not the Onalfo style one) where we can see what we have for next year and clear out some of the excess, high priced (old) baggage on our team.
My prediction is that if we have that lineup we might not win and I see a 1-1 tie in our future. I hope I’m wrong and we can pull out a win this weekend.

Tie. Hirsig is just awful. I insist, we should change the formation a bit, something like a 1-4-3-2-1.
Hartman
Watson-McKenzie-Conrad-Harrington
Gomez (Espinoza)-Morsink-Jewsbury-
Arnaud-Lopez
Cristman (or Wolff)This way we can transition easily from D to Attack; we can have a strong guy like Cristman fight it up top, while Davy and Lopez come in behind him.
I just think our formation is old and used and everyone knows it.Posted from
