The KC Wizards win the 2004 US Open Cup.
The Kansas City Wizards have now joined the ranks of the L.A. Galaxy and the New York Red Bulls as the MLS teams represented at theOffside.com.
My love affair with the curiously-named Wizards began in 1997 as I watched the United States in a World Cup qualifier against a CONCACAF foe. A Czech-born American player named Preki caught my eye, and when I learned where he played MLS football, I was hooked on Kansas City. Preki and company enjoyed a lot of early success, culminating in the 2000 season, when they won the MLS’ double, the Supporter’s Shield and the MLS Cup. In 2004, the Wizards won the US Open Cup. The last two seasons, however, have been not as friendly. After missing the playoffs in 2006, the Wizards were bought out by a group of local investors under the name “OnGoal, LLC”. As new money pours into the organization, there are hopes of rekindling Kansas City’s success in the MLS.
I hope this blog will increase the number of people who follow the Wizards and serve as a resource for those who already do.

Hi, Michael. It’s Laurie from LA Galaxy Offside and the France page at World Cup Blog. Glad to see another MLS blogger here. I think we can singlehandedly put MLS on the map. And acquire total world domination while we’re at it. And btw, Martha (Red Bulls) and I weren’t the first — DC beat us to it.
