Wizards win!

By: travis | March 4th, 2008

KC got their trip off to a “good” start with a 1-0 win over Defensa y Justicia. Game notes from the team blog:

  • Lance Watson grabbed the only goal of the game in the 7th minute. Good start to the preseason for him. Only appeared in two games last season, so he’ll be fighting for some more playing time.
  • Defensa y Justicia had a penalty saved in the 43rd minute by Kevin Hartman. Big news whenever your keeper saves a penalty. Still the preseason, but Hartman’s play this season will help set the pace for 2008.
  • Two vastly different lineups were used for each half. Surprisingly enough a 4-4-2 was used. Not sure why, considering the team is supposedly switching to a 3-5-2.

Other notes/news:
After countless yards of red tape, Ivan Trujillo is officially on the team. This had been reported for a few months now, but the final stamps had not been completed on the paperwork. It’s now a done deal and he is on the way to Buenos Aires to join the team.

And of course, still no official word if Claudio Lopez is/is not joining the team. The status is still somewhere in the ambiguous realm of “most likely.”

The Wizards continue training in Argentina and will possibly play against River Plate on Friday; nothing official (but who isn’t surprised by that?).
