Know thy enemy

With the Wizards with a bye weekend (sort of) the biggest news of the week relates to Colorado’s 1-0 win against the LA Galaxy in a US Open Cup qualifier last on Tuesday. On June 4 KC will host the Rapids with the winner filling a spot in the 16-team tournament. The match will take place at Shawnee Mission North High School in Overland Park, KS. I’m not too sure where that is, but I’d be pumped if my high school was hosting a match between two MLS teams.

With the Wizards struggling and the next two matches (New Mexico Cup this weekend) not part of league play, I’d be surprised to see Onalfo play a lot of first-teamers. Lopez will probably get a rest, as he has played third most minutes of any player this season, behind only Jimmy Conrad and Kevin Hartman.

For those of you that weren’t paying attention, the Wizards captured the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup in 2004. The tournament now has a bit more incentive behind it, with the winner securing a place in the CONCACAF Champions League. Still, I’d expect a lot of the reserves to play in these next two matches.
